Delilah Gay Phillips

Delilah Gay Phillips, age 98, formerly of Indian Valley & Floyd, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010 at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born June 18, 1911, the forth of five daughters born to the late Elkanah & Ruth Phillips of Indian Valley. A farm girl who became a farmer’s wife, she was a jack-of-all trades, both in the home and out on the farm, but was best known later in life for her delicious home cooking and her beautiful hand quilting.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jett S. Phillips, her sons, Clarence E. Phillips and M. Glenn Phillips, an infant grandson, Alvin G. Phillips, and her sisters, Edna Quesenberry, Ocie Hollandsworth, Hattie Hollandsworth, and Lala Spence.

She is survived by five granddaughters: Debra McAlexander and husband Don, Floyd; Donna Phillips and friend Clifford Shirah, Snowville; Sharon Phillips and friend Tim Allen, Mount Juliet, TN; Connie Phillips, Radford; Pamela Phillips and husband Steve Hensley, Castleton, VA; five great grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday May 10, 2010 at Maberry Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in the Captain George Quesenberry Cemetery, Indian Valley with Rev. Josh Kilbourne officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home on Sunday May 9, 2010.
